Whole Board Training

Quality training is one way the Alabama Association of School Boards is accomplishing its mission to develop excellent school board leaders. Our exemplary training team comprises AASB staff members with decades of experience working with and for boards as well as a cadre of former board members and superintendents who were schooled in the real world. The team is prepared to help improve your skills via a wide variety of interactive courses created to meet boards’ needs.

Research indicates that school boards are more effective when all members of a school board learn together as a team. AASB’s standard and customized training sessions allow the whole board to come together and focus on a particular area of need, discuss the school system’s specific situation, ask questions and develop plans for improving performance.

AASB has developed these industry leading training options that are available to you in-person at your location or ours, as well as online to ensure all board members can meet their state-required two hours of whole board training annually.

New training opportunities available at your fingertips for this year include “Dealing with Difficult People” and “School Safety: Tips and Guidelines” - each addressing foundational challenges in educational leadership. 

Free Training Workshops

Enjoy free sessions to make your professional development budget stretch further! This year’s sessions are “Boomers to Zoomers: Generational Insights” and “Effective Board Meetings.” These workshops are available to schedule beginning Octobr 1, 2026. 

Customized Board Retreats

Complete your state required training with a fully customizable workshop at a location of choice. This comprehensive workshop equips school board members with both the knowledge and practical tools to lead effectively and confidently. Through engaging discussions, real-world scenarios, and interactive activities, school board members will gain a deeper understanding of their governance responsibilities and the critical role they play in student success. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies based on the training topics choosen that can immediately be applied to strengthen board effectiveness and support the district's goals.
