Rhonda Smith was appointed by the executive committee of AASB's Board of Directors in November 2025 to serve as District 9 director, completing the balance former District 9 Director Alice Lessmann's term. She has served on the Boaz City school board since 2014 and currently serves as vice president. During her 11-year tenure on the Boaz school board, she has held leadership positions as president and vice president. She also has served on AASB's Nominating Committee and represented AASB on statewide task forces. A Certified Academic Language Therapist specializing in dyslexia, Rhonda serves as Director of Education Services for the Dyslexia Resource Center. She also serves on the Alabama International Dyslexia Association Board of Directors and as National Vice President of Academic Affairs for the Academic Language Therapist Association Board of Directors. Rhonda has achieved Master status in the AASB School Board Member Academy. She holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Alabama and a Master of Education in Dyslexia Therapy from Mississippi College.
