Alice Lessmann has been a member of the Madison City school board since 2020 and was appointed to fill a vacancy as AASB District 9 Director in November 2022, before being elected for her first full term in December 2022. She has reached Masters level in the AASB School Board Member Academy. Alice has served on the AASB Board Training Advisory Committee as Chair and currently serves on the AASB Advocacy Committee as Co-Chair.

Mrs. Lessmann and her husband own two small defense contracting companies in the Huntsville/Madison area. An award-winning CEO, Alice was named Female Entrepreneur of the Year by Innovate Huntsville and Catalyst Center for Business and Entrepreneurship in 2021 as well as receiving the Madison City Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Leadership & Service Award. She received the 2022 District Director’s Award from the Small Business Association and was named a 2022 Women Honoring Women Honoree. In 2024, Alice was named the Madison Visionary Partners’ (MVP) Philanthropic Businessperson of the year and was also awarded the Madison City Chamber’s “Spirit of Madison” Award with her husband.

Mrs. Lessmann is a native of the Huntsville / Madison area and served 21 years in the Alabama National Guard, retiring as an officer. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She graduated from the Veteran’s Institute of Procurement (VIP GROW) Program, the Goldman Sach’s 10,000 Small Businesses Program, and has received certifications for Facility Security Officer (FSO) Program Management, ISO 9001 internal auditor, and ISO 9001 management. She and her husband, Steve, have two children that attend Bob Jones High School.

Mrs. Lessmann enjoys volunteering in the community. A graduate of the Leadership Greater Huntsville’s Flagship L32 class, she is also a past Steering Committee Chair of the Flagship Program. She is on the Founding Committee of the University of Alabama’s Invention to Innovation Center’s (UAH I2C) Women in Technology Board. Ms. Lessmann is a past Chair for the Women’s Business Council of the Huntsville Madison Chamber, is a member of the Women’s Economic Development Council and Women in Defense Tennessee Valley Chapter. Ms. Lessmann’s family was honored to be named the 2020 Madison Family of the Year for their community involvement.
