Montgomery, Ala. - (June 14, 2021) –The Alabama Association of School Boards today announced the winners of its 10th annual statewide student video contest, “Road to Success.”

Winners include:

1st place ($1,500) – South Girard School,(Phenix City Schools), Watch Video;

2nd place ($1,000) – Central High School (Phenix City Schools), Watch Video;

3rd place ($500) - Section High School (Jackson County Schools), Watch Video; and

Honorable mention($250)– Calera High School (Shelby County Schools), Watch Video.

Video entries from across the state were submitted and judged by a team from Alabama Public Television’s (APT) education and production staff.

“We received outstanding submissions from public middle and high school students once again for this year’s contest. We always lookforward to seeing how students’ video entries will represent their schools and showcase their exceptional creativity,” said Cindy Formanek Kirk, APT Vice President of Educational Services. “It is evident through this year’s submissions that these students are on the road to great success.”

The contest, which ran from February 1 to April23, 2021, encouraged public middle and high schoolsto submit 30- to 60-second commercials about the positive school experiences that inspire students to graduate fully prepared for any “road to success” they choose. The contest was sponsored by AASB and Fairbanks LLC, as well asby Alabama Public Television through an American Graduate “Getting to Work” grant funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The winning videos will be shown at an upcoming State Board of Education meeting andduring theannual AASBConvention at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham -The Wynfrey Hotel Dec. 2-4, where winners will be recognized on stage and receive their prizes. The student-produced videos also will beposted on APT’s website, www.aptv.org,and on AASB’s website,www.AlabamaSchoolBoards.org, and social media platforms.

“For the 10th year in a row, this statewide contest has allowed students to showcase the creativity and excellence that exists in our public schools;” said AASB Executive Director Sally Smith. “Alabama educators continue to go above and beyond to ensure students are prepared for any ‘road to success’ they choose to take.”
