Verlander Jones has been a member of the Hale County Board of Education since Nov 2010. She has served on several AASB committees and completed over 360 hours in AASB's training academy, earning the coveted Master Honor Roll status. A mom of two, you may know one of Verlander's sons as none other than Crimson Tide basketball star Herb Jones. Read below to get to know more about Verlander!

 

Other than your service as a school board member, tell us about your career/ professional background. 

I am the District Technology Coordinator for Perry County. I have served as a first grade teacher and assistant principal. I have served 26 years in education.

 

What inspired you to join the school board?

I was inspired to join the school board to bring a perspective from an educator's view point. I want to serve my community and bring in ideas to move the district forward to greatness.

 

What is your favorite part about being a school board member?

My favorite part of being a board member is working as a team to accomplish the district goals.

 

What are you most proud of accomplishing as a member of your school board?

I am most proud of the culture change in our district. I believe that everything starts with the culture of the school district. I firmly believe that if the culture is right, academic success will follow.

 

What do you do outside of the school board, and what are some of your hobbies?

I am a mother of two young men and I love to spend time with my family every moment possible. I love working with young people on community projects. I love to travel, try new adventures, and read.

 

A fun fact most people don't know about me is...

I have a love/hate relationship with dogs!
