Stephanie Smith's day-to-day life is busy, but one thing she enjoys making time for is supporting the students and schools in her community! She is honored to be a member of the Tuscumbia school board and loves working with others to support education at all levels.

Q: What is your current occupation?
A: I currently work in higher education in the human resources profession.
Q: How long have you been on the school board and what inspired you to join?
A: I have served on the Tuscumbia City school board since 2020. This is an appointed position, and I was honored to be asked. I count it as a privilege to serve our district and community!
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a school board member?
A: Learning more about how the district functions and supporting the students, faculty, staff and stakeholders.
Q: What’s one key thing you’ve learned since becoming a board member?
A: To have a bird’s eye view and how to best use our areas of strengths as a board. I’ve also learned a lot of acronyms!
Q: Are there any special initiatives or projects you’re proud of accomplishing with your board or looking forward to working on with them?
A: I am proud of how the superintendent, administrators and teachers have led us to improve academically. I am also excited about the growth in our district that is leading to expanding our facilities!
Q: What's one piece of advice you would share with an incoming board member?
A: Genuinely learn more about the people you serve with, support the people you serve and lean into each other's strengths to serve the district.
Q: What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of your role as a board member?
A: I don't have much time for hobbies; however, I do love to paint! I am truly a novice.
Q: Finish the sentence. One thing you should know about me is…
A: I have a heart for people! I realize that we are all an "ex-something" [we have a past] and should extend grace. I absolutely love the beach and sounds of the ocean!

A: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
