Each month we'll be featuring school board members in an effort to learn more about the wonderful individuals serving on our boards!
In 2017, Kevin Corcoran helped establish Gulf Shores City Schools, where he currently serves as president of the board. His advocacy for public education runs deep, having served as a member of multiple education task forces and as the parent of seven Gulf Shores High School graduates -- and an eighth set to walk across the stage in May. Kevin is committed to improving the educational experience of Gulf Shores students.

What is your current occupation?
I am a broker and owner of RE/MAX of Gulf Shores.
What inspired you to join the school board?
After serving on three education task forces between 2015 - 2017, I knew that we had to improve education in Gulf Shores. So I made it my mission to help form Gulf Shores City Schools. Now, we can locally make the best decisions possible.
What is your favorite part about being a school board member?
That every decision that we make is based on our Five Core Values. If it doesn’t enhance or reinforce our core values, we don’t do it.
What’s one thing you’ve learned since becoming a board member?
If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together!
Is there anything you are particularly proud of accomplishing as a board member?
There are so many accomplishments that Gulf Shores City Schools has made in just three short years. I’m most proud of the innovations in education that we have implemented, thus exposing our young adults to as many opportunities as possible. Our goal is to help them discover their true passion.
What is one piece of advice you would share with an incoming board member?
Stay in your lane! Let the professionals do their job, and be there to set policy and support the district’s employees!
What are some of your hobbies?
Boating, running and biking.
Is there a fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
Together my wife and I have eight children! In May 2023, we will have our eighth Gulf Shores High School graduate. I wish I was a stand-up comedian. I love to make people laugh!
