Each month, we'll be featuring school board members in an effort to learn more about the wonderful individuals serving on our boards!
Ethan Taylor joined the Pike Road school board in 2021. With a background in education budgeting, Ethan was eager to use his experience to help the board support Pike Road students and schools.

Q: What is your current occupation?
A: Director of LEA Budgets and Supports for the Alabama State Department of Education
Q: What inspired you to join the school board?
A: I wanted to give my time to the school system to make sure that students have the best possible experience. I also wanted to be there for communication between the community and the school system. I have experience with the education budget, and I would like to assist our CSFO in that process as needed.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a school board member?
A: Communicating with the community and making decisions on policies and procedures that are what we believe are the best. Then watching those [policies] work to the benefit of the students and the school system!
Q: What’s one thing you’ve learned since becoming a board member?
A: It takes a team to make it work. Work together to make the best decisions for our school system, and rely on each other’s strengths.
Q: Is there anything you are particularly proud of accomplishing as a board member (i.e., new initiatives or special projects…)?
A: I am a fairly new board member but at this time we are in the process of building a new high school. This will be the first new high school in Pike Road and our students need it. This is an exciting time for our schools system and I am so glad to be a part of this process.
Q: What is one piece of advice you would share with an incoming board member?
One piece of advice would be to understand the difference between board and staff. AASB provides clear roles of a board member that need to be understood.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: I love the outdoors. I enjoy spending time at the lake, fishing, hunting, golfing, bush-hogging and wood working.
