Q: What is your current occupation?
A: I’m a subcontract administrator supporting global supply chain efforts within the United States Department of Defense.
Q: How long have you been on the school board and what inspired you to run?
A: I’m in the second year of my first term. I’ve always been passionate about people and believe that education is one of the greatest tools that can enhance the life of people. I wanted to ensure that the children in the classrooms of my district and county were afforded the same opportunities and access to resources that would support all of their educational needs.
Q: Do you find that being one of the youngest in the room is an advantage or a disadvantage?
A: I was raised by my grandfather amongst an older village, so I’ve always been the youngest in the room. I see it as an advantage, because I love being able to collaborate and tap into the wisdom and knowledge in the room. My age brings experiences and modern perspectives to many topics and discussions. This diversity allows the opportunity for true progress to be made.
Q: How do you think your background and experiences have influenced your approach to board service?
A: Prior to being elected on the board of education, I worked with the public in a neighboring municipality, and I served a term and a half as a member on my town’s council. That experience and service gave me the foundation of skills and characteristics that I use today.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a school board member?
A: What I enjoy most is seeing the excitement and inspiration in the children and staff. Just knowing that I’m making a positive impact on their lives brings joy to my heart!
Q: What’s one key thing you’ve learned since becoming a school board member?
A: One key thing that I’ve learned is that my decisions could have a lifelong effect on the lives of the children and communities that I serve.
Q: Is there anything you are particularly proud of your board for accomplishing? Anything you’re looking forward to accomplishing with them?
A: We have a number of capital building projects scheduled throughout our school district. Most of these will be completed in the next three to seven years. These projects will position our district for sustainment and growth opportunities.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you would share with an incoming board member?
A: Be practicable and realistic in approaching solutions for issues and make sure that the children’s best interest is the foundation for every decision that is made.
Q: Outside of working with the board, what are some of your hobbies?
A: When I’m not playing pickleball, shooting pool or vacationing, I enjoy spending time with and cooking for my family and friends.
Q: Finish the sentence. One thing you should know about me is…
A: I love to line dance. I founded and instructed one of the largest classes in our area.
Q: Do you have an inspirational quote or mantra that keeps you going?
A: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
