Board Member Spotlight: Dale Bain

Each month, we'll be featuring school board members in an effort to learn more about the wonderful individuals serving on our boards!

Dolas (Dale) Bain is vice president of the Elmore County School Board. Dale enjoys engaging with Elmore County parents as they guide their children through their academic journeys and prepare them for the future!

Read below to learn more about Dale!

Q: What is your current occupation?

A: I am a Retired U.S. Army Colonel 38+ years.

Q: What inspired you to join the school board?

A: I have loved and taught children in some area all my life - Sunday school children and teens, Army soldiers and now an entire county full!

Q: What is your favorite part about being a school board member?

A: My favorite part of being a school board member is having the chance to reach out and talk to parents and watch them guide their children in the right way. And to work with a true group of professionals with the same mission and goal -- the best school board in the state!

Q: What’s one thing you’ve learned since becoming a board member?

A: I’ve learned it's important to have the right team, from the board to the superintendent to the entire organization. Give them the resources, keep higher levels out of the way, and watch them perform beautifully!

Q: Is there anything you are particularly proud of accomplishing as a board member (i.e., new initiatives or special projects…)?

A: I am proud to have been a part of starting two new programs -- a policy taking up cell phones in the large high school and starting a program to get some children at least an hour of Bible school.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would share with an incoming board member?

A: Build an agreement and foundation with the entire board.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?

A: I enjoy hunting, fishing and travel.

Q: An interesting facts about me is...

A: I am one of the few Army draftees that went through all levels of rank: Private EL, Non-Commissioned officer (Sergeant First Class), Warrant Officer (WO1) and Commissioned Officer (Colonel 06).

Q: Favorite inspirational quote...

A: "To be a good soldier you must love the Army. But to be a good officer you must be willing to order the death of the thing you love. That is a very hard thing to do. No other profession requires it. That is the reason why there are so very few officers. Although there are many good men." - General Robert E. Lee
