Board Member Spotlight: Annie Jackson


Each month, we'll be featuring school board members in an effort to learn more about the wonderful individuals serving on our boards!



Annie Jackson became a member of the Pickens County school board in 2012 and currently serves as board president. Her love for her community and the children in it moved her to get involved in improving education in Pickens County.

Q: What is your current occupation? If retired, what did you do before?

A: I am a retired wound care and hyperbaric nurse.

 

Q: What inspired you to join the school board?

A: Seeing my old high school being closed down and how it really affected my community and the kids made me want to make a difference. I’m committed and dedicated to bettering the education of students.

 

Q: What is your favorite part about being a school board member?

A: My favorite part about being a school board member is seeing the growth of the kids and the community, and being able to see a clear vision for the school district.

 

Q: What’s one thing you’ve learned since becoming a board member?

A: One thing I learned since becoming a board member is always keep an open mind.


Q: Is there anything you are particularly proud of accomplishing as a board member (i.e., new initiatives or special projects…)?

A: The opening of the Pickens County College and Career Center. It has given our students the opportunity to not only be successful in college but also in the workforce. Also, our excellent graduation rate!

 

Q: What is one piece of advice you would share with an incoming board member?

A: One piece of advice I would share with an incoming board member is, “There are many members but one body."

 

Q: What are some of your hobbies?

A: Spending time with family and traveling.


Q: An interesting facts about me is...

A: I hate roller-coasters!

A: “Prevention is better than cure."
