Job Overview
The Tallapoosa County Board of Education is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief School Financial Officer.
JOB GOAL: To administer the business affairs of the school system in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available and to be responsible for a financial management system that reflects the financial condition of the local board of education on a timely and accurate basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must (at a minimum) hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a concentration in a business-related curriculum, accounting, or finance
- MBA or other graduate degree from an accredited institution
- Certified Public Accountant - CPA
- Three years experience in a business related field
- Extensive experience with Financial System implementation (Preferred)
- Current Certification as a Chief School Finance Officer - CSFO (Preferred) or complete an Alabama State Department of Education required certification for CSFOs
- Must meet annual requirements for continuing education to maintain CSFO certification.
- Must be bondable
- Must have a valid Alabama's Driver's License
- Three years experience with directing human resources/personnel (Preferred)
- Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the institution
- Ability to supervise personnel - three or more years of supervisory experience in K-12 educational accounting (Preferred)
- Completion of the Alabama Association of School Business Officials Program (Preferred)
- Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of accounting laws, policies, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of tax laws, reforms, and regulations which impact employee benefits, tax forms, and related concerns
- Knowledge of business techniques and computers at a level required to implement and maintain an automated financial system (i.e. knowledgeable in McAleer/NextGen)
- Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of business and finance
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
- Possess physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast paced, high-intensity environment
