Networking and learning ...

Nine district directors, who represent geographical areas of the state, serve as part of a 15-member board that governs AASB.

The fall and winter district meetings are sponsored by AASB's School Board Member Academy. The evening sessions include networking, dinner and a feature presentation on an important K-12 education or board governance issue. Directors moderate their district's meetings. Special guests often include AASB's Professional Sustaining Members and dignitaries. Eligible participants earn credit hours toward Academy achievement levels. For details, contact us.

Fall District Meetings
Brochure Register

The meetings -- one in each of the nine AASB districts -- is an opportunity for training in your own backyard. Meetings generally start with an opportunity for networking and idea-sharing before dinner and the presentation. The program is a member service and the only cost is dinner. President's Award Winners will be honored at the fall district meetings. For details, contact us. Aug. 23-Sept. 16, 2010 (Core Course, 1 Academy Hour)

Are your youngest students prepared for big school? If you don’t know whether your kindergarten teachers communicate with preschool teachers or if your dropouts are the same students who struggled even before first grade, perhaps it’s time for a little collaboration. AASB’s Aug. 23-Sept. 16 Fall District Meetings will peel back the layers on quality pre-kindergarten education and its impact on school readiness. You’ll learn how communities are coming together to discuss, support, create and expand pre-K programs even in these challenging economic times. Tap into state-funded early education resources. Discover the hidden early education gems in your community. Understand where your kindergarten pipeline begins. Participate in the conversation, so every student can start strong for a successful finish. Research shows that students who are not prepared are not as successful as students who are. School boards working collaboratively with their superintendents and communities can make the difference.

AASB Districts Districts Directors Candidate Brochure

Every other year, either even or odd district director positions come up for election. The new directors take office at the close of AASB's annual convention in December and will serve two-year terms. Under AASB's voting procedures, school boards in each district cast their individual votes for a director candidate in their district during official board meetings in October. Contact us, for more information.

You're free to attend any district meeting
if you are unable to be present for your own.
Be certain to sign in to receive Academy credit.
